Develop SEO concept using the KLC rule

SEO Course - LessOn 1

As mentioned in the introduction, it is highly advantageous to develop an SEO concept at the beginning of your search engine optimization. Specifically, this involves first identifying the important keywords, then assigning them to individual pages of your website, and finally creating the appropriate content.

1.1 The three steps of the KLC rule (quick overview)

Here you will find a quick overview of the three most important steps in the SEO concept. Further details on each step can be found in lessons 2-4.

1.1.1 The Keyword Research (Step 1)

With the help of keyword research (K), you can identify which keywords are particularly important or promising for your website or business. It is also essential to determine the “right” keywords that align perfectly with your business and promise high click rates and new customer acquisition.

1.1.2 Assign keywords to SEO landing pages (step 2)

This step is extremely important for your SEO. Here, each keyword is assigned to a specific page on your website. From then on, this page becomes the SEO landing page (L) for the respective keyword. In principle, any page on your website (homepage, product pages, blog articles, etc.) can be an SEO landing page. The key is that the content of the page matches the keyword (see also Step 3).

1.1.3 Create keyword-based content (Step 3)

The content (C) of each SEO landing page should be tailored to the keywords of the respective page, with particular attention to the user’s search intent.
In short: In this example, the content should be as interesting and informative as possible for users searching for “italian cooking classes chicago” on Google.

1.2 The big advantages of the KLC rule

Applying the KLC rule has numerous advantages for optimizing your website. Below you will find the most important ones.

You automatically create engaging content for both users and search engines. This typically results in higher user satisfaction and conversions, as well as improved rankings on Google & other search engines.

In cases of internal keyword competition, also known as keyword cannibalization, a keyword appears prominently on multiple pages. This can lead to search engines selecting and displaying the wrong page for a keyword or, in the worst-case scenario, your page not ranking for the keyword at all.

This is a significant issue for many larger websites.

By applying the KLC rule, you automatically minimize internal keyword competition.

With the KLC rule, you determine which pages of your website are SEO-relevant and which are not. After all, not every page needs to be optimized for Google & Co.

If you create individual pages using the KLC rule and also perform thorough on-page optimization (see Lesson 5) for these pages, this is often enough to achieve good results on Google & other search engines. Of course, this depends on the keyword and the level of competition.

However, if you neglect the KLC rule, you will typically miss out on many good rankings for important keywords. .

As already mentioned, the KLC is the basis for your search engine optimization. But of course you can expand the concept to include other elements such as backlinks or technical SEO
